Object: Article on translation
Type: scan
Date: 1990s
Location: Europe
Story: This piece had several effects. The first one was a night time phone call by the editor of the publication asking the author to sign a release form within the hour because she, the editor, had literally postponed the production run of the current edition in order to get this article in.
The second, related, effect was that the resident Big Brain in the author's household was upset about the scoop.
The third effect was a minor split in the German translation community: rumor has it that some folks ROFLed while others complained the piece was an attack on the image of the profession.
Effect number four was that the folks of the bulletin of the French association of translators and interpreters wrote they had read something funny in German.
